TIJUANA STREET EATS: A PROGRESSIVE MEAL. NOON SATURDAY JUNE 2. TICKETS.

Grab your bib más bueno and join Turista Libre and Life & Food for the first chapter in an ongoing series of urban gastronomic walkabouts south of the border, a progressive smorgasbord in which you’ll eat your way through some of Tijuana’s most iconic street foods: Tortas Washmobile, Tacos N’ Salsas and tostilocos (the city’s very own fruit-nut-nacho-lard salad, most recently touted in The New York Times). Then wash it all down with a flight of Tijuana-made craft beer by Cerveceria Zesde at La Chupiteria downtown on Sixth Street.

The $45 ticket includes food, beer flight and transportation for the day on Turista Libre’s famed fun bus, plus a foodie parting gift that we’re pretty sure you’ll never want to part with. The group meets on the U.S. side of the San Ysidro pedestrian border crossing at the benches outside the UETA Duty Free store on Camiones Way at noon on Saturday, June 2. MEETING SPOT MAP.

Make a day of it and hang around for masked Mexican wresting with Turista Libre at Tijuana’s municipal auditorium later that evening for just $20 more, a $15 discount off TL’s regular lucha libre ticket price.

Space is limited so prepaying is a must.

LUCHA LIBRE may2012

LUCHA LIBRE. 7 PM
SATURDAY JUNE 2. TICKETS.

Masked men in stretchy pants throwing down body slams, somersaults, backflips and trash talk en español could only mean one thing. Así es, ¡lucha libre! Mexican wrestling differs little from its American counterpart technically speaking. Best two out of three wins. But the camp, action, drama, color, acrobatics and sporadic pyrotechnics make it nothing short of a living, breathing comic book.

The $35 ticket includes transport from the border to Tijuana’s Auditorio Municipal on Turista Libre’s famed fun bus, en-route libations and a lucha libre souvenir so sweet you’ll probably pass it on to the grandkids.

The group meets on the U.S. side of the San Ysidro pedestrian border crossing at the benches outside the UETA Duty Free store on Camiones Way at 7 p.m. MEETING SPOT MAP.

Space is limited so prepaying is a must. TICKETS.

Make a day of it, join us for our Tijuana Street Eats food tour at noon and save $15 on both treks.

WATERPARK 2012

EL VERGEL WATERPARK ROUND 1. 11 AM SATURDAY JUNE 9. TICKETS.

Waterslides that should probably require helmets but everyone rides face first anyway. Big-ass beers rimmed with chile and chamoy. Tambora bands, corn on the cob on the grill, Tecate eagle fake tattoos, a Tarzan rope. Everyone says Disneyland is the happiest place on earth. But they’re wrong. Welcome to El Vergel, Baja California’s largest waterpark.

The original plan was to hold off until July for Turista Libre’s annual El Vergel invasion. But we just can’t wait that long. If you were there last year, you know exactly why. Thankfully summer stretches into October ‘round these parts, which allows us to hit up Vergel as often as possible, which we will.

Tickets include transportation from the border, admission to the waterpark, en-route paloma popsicles and beers, plus prizes to the winners of the swimsuit fashion show.

The group meets on the U.S. side of the San Ysidro pedestrian border crossing at the benches outside the UETA Duty Free store on Camiones Way at 11 a.m., with an estimated return to the border by 7 p.m. MEETING SPOT MAP.

Space is limited so prepaying is a must. Purchase twofer tickets for June 9 and July 28 for $50 and save $10 on both treks.

JUNE 9 VERGEL TICKETS $30
JUNE 9 + JULY 28 TWOFER VERGEL TICKETS $50

wineries june2012

VALLE DE GUADALUPE WINERY HOP. 10 AM SATURDAY JUNE 30
. TICKETS.

The fruits of the some 80 wineries tucked amid the lush hills between Tecate and Ensenada have inspired oenophiles from near and far to brand the Guadalupe Valley as Mexico’s Napa, a travel guide gem that’s a mere 90-minute car ride from San Diego.

Tickets include transportation from the border, flights at three of the region’s less commercial wineries and dinner at Ochentos, a gourmet pizzeria with an expansive terrace and an even more expansive view at sunset (see for yourself). In adherence with international wine country etiquette, we’ll be keeping the mood intimate by capping this trek’s headcount at 15. Space is limited so prepaying is a must. TICKETS.

The group meets on the U.S. side of the San Ysidro pedestrian border crossing at the benches outside the UETA Duty Free store on Camiones Way at 10 a.m., with an estimated return to the border by 9 p.m. MEETING SPOT MAP.
