The sequel to our maiden microhops hop, Turista Libre raises its glass once again to Tijuana’s ever-ripening artisan beer scene with a visit to three of its star homebrewers: Insurgente, Tijuana Brewers and Aguacaliente. Founding members from each label will be on hand to talk techniques, tastes, their rise against Mexico’s macrocerveza duopoly and the growing culture of craft brew south of the border.
Also on the itinerary is a visit to the headquarters of TJ’s namesake brew, Cerveza Tijuana, and a taco stop or two.
The $45 ticket includes three 6-ounce tasters from each brewer, a beer of your choice at Cerveza Tijuana and transportation from the border on Turista Libre’s fun bus. We’ll meet on the U.S. side of turnstiles at the San Ysidro pedestrian border crossing at 1 p.m. sharp, walk across the border together and bus it from there. Meeting spot map.
