What is Turista Libre?

Founded in 2009 by a journalist who relocated from the midwestern United States to Mexico, the core goal of Turista Libre — "Free Tourist" — is to experience the many facets of Mexico less like an outsider and more like an insider. A liberated tourist, so to speak.

Itineraries take their inspiration from various iconic pastimes typically reserved for locals, and the themes of our public treks rotate from weekend to weekend.

You'll visit an array of cultural hotspots — museums, markets, gastronomic gems, breweries, wineries, concerts, sporting events and more — allowing you to savor an authentic side of a country unlike any other, free of its obvious stereotypes and cliches.

Tijuana is our home base and the majority of our treks happen in and around the city, Mexico's sixth most populated and the largest on the border. But we also offer customized experiences in and around Mexico City, too.

We look forward to having you with us south of the border soon. In the meantime, check out what the rest of the world is saying about us on Trip Advisor and Yelp via the links below.

And if you would like to support Turista Libre during the COVID-19 pandemic, donations are gratefully accepted via our PayPal and Venmo links below, too.

¡Saludos!
